What is a Disability Assessor?

A Disability or Functional Assessor is a compassionate and ambitious healthcare professional, responsible for carrying out holistic, face-to-face assessments with individuals who have a varied range of physical and/or mental health disabilities, seeking to receive the PIP or WCA benefit scheme.

In September 2024 the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will launch the new Health Assessment Advisory Service (HAAS), which will supersede the existing separate contracts for Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Work Capability Assessments (WCA) for Employment and Support Allowance and Universal Credit (UC), as well as a number of specialist benefits services.

This service will replace the old multi-provider setup with a single Prime provider in each area of the country, bringing together all health benefit assessments into one comprehensive service.
